William Phelps

William Bill Phelps, age 74, of Quinlan, passed away at his home in the morning hours of Thursday, November 27, 2008. Mr. Phelps was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to Clayton and Agnes (Cole) Phelps, they precede him in death. He served in the US Navy and saw action in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge from the Navy, Mr. Phelps then worked as a pipe fitter. He married Pansy L. Phelps on January 12, 1993, in Knoxville, TN., she survives. Many will remember Bill as a Christian man with a large family and a love and desire to work and tinker in the garage . Mr. Phelps is also survived by daughters, Teresa Alexander, Rita Phelps, Edwina Albritton, and Sandra Thompson, all of Jacksonville, FL, Kathy Murphy and Francis Smith, both of Knoxville, TN, Sue Payne, Cheryl Smith, and Sandy Chambers, all of Caddo Mills, TX; sons, David Chambers, of San Diego, CA, and James Chambers, of Addison, TX; brothers, Tommy Phelps, of Octaha, OK, David Phelps, of Ogden, IA, and Barton Phelps, of Knoxville, TN; sister, Judy Thompson, Huntsville, Al. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and his close friend and second son , Rick Houston. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene Phelps, Stevie Phelps, and James M. Phelps and one grand daughter, Hollie Bruner-Smith. Services for Mr. Phelps will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Peters Funeral Home. Following the service in Greenville, Mr. Phelps will have a funeral service at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel in Knoxville, TN at 1 PM, Tuesday, December 2, 2008. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM, Monday, December 1.
