William Head

William Edward Hick Head, age 85, of Greenville, peacefully passed away in the early evening hours of Sunday, January 17, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 26, 1924 in Campbell to Alonzo Cornelius and Maggie Willard Head, they preceded him in death. Mr. Head served his country in the United States Army. Upon his return home, he began his career as an educator. Throughout his career he taught as a math teacher and a basketball coach and retired as principal of the Quinlan High School. Mr. Head also maintained his family farm in Cumby. He married Sherry Lynn Spradlin on October 6, 2007, she survives. Hick will be most remembered as a man who always put others first. He most enjoyed the hours he spent watching the world go by on his front porch and laughing with his family. Mr. Head is also survived by one step-son, Chuck Spradlin of Greenville; one brother, Herman Head of Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Opal Head, Gladys Head, Maggie Rene Cavazos, Ona Lee Johnson, and Louvenia Drake and two brothers, Joe Head and Willard Head. Services for William Hick Head will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the chapel of the Friendship Cemetery with Bro. Billie Foote officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 " 8 P.M., Friday evening at the funeral home.
