Roy Virgil Sorters, age 90, of Greenville, passed away in the late evening hours of Thursday, December 9, 2010 at his home in the loving care of his wife. He was born on July 28, 1920 in Velasco, Texas to Virgil Cleveland and Gladys Irwin Sorters, they preceded him in death. Mr. Sorters served in the United States Army during World War II and toured the Pacific, Philippines, and Australia. He married Fredia Cole on April 23, 1993 in Brazoria County, Texas, she survives. Mr. Sorters last worked as a supervisor for Dow Chemicals in Freeport and was a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife Fredia of Greenville; children, Sandra Cowan, and husband Mike, of West Columbia, TX, Ronnie Sorters, and wife Darya, of Farmington, NM, Richard Scott, and wife LeeAnn, of Tom Bean, TX, and Tina Mosley, and husband Shawn, of Wylie, TX; sisters, Shirley Brasts of Sealy, TX, Betty Lou Woods of Conroe, TX, Ruby Ray of Bay City, TX, Mary Bell of Clute, TX, and Ricki Massey of Dale, TX; brother, Robert Sorters of Waxahachie, TX; and 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sorters was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Sorters and George Sorters, and one sister, Ester Miltenburger. A memorial service for Mr. Sorters will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, TX. Local arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home in Greenville.
