Ralphie Mae Harrod, age 97, of Yantis, TX, was born on the 4th of July, 1927 and lived an abundant life full of love, bowling and dancing until her passing on July 20, 2024. She was the oldest of Elmer and Flossie (Wesson) Grubbs’ six children. She began her life and her schooling in the Arbala Community before the family moved to the Grubbs Community and later to Sulphur Springs where she attended high school in the class of 1945.
She attained NASA certification and worked in the electronics industry on various special projects in the Dallas area for a number of years and married Thomas Harrod in 1970. When she retired in 1992, they relocated to the Yantis Community within a mile of her childhood home.
She led a very active retirement life visiting family, caring for farm animals, crocheting, sewing, bowling and dancing. She started bowling in 1957 and was on several leagues during the 57 years of participating in the sport. She was a legacy within the local bowling leagues. Her love of dancing was unsurpassed as she attended dances two or more times each week.
She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and a favorite aunt. She had an uncanny way of making each of her loved ones feel like they were her favorite. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ralphie is survived by her son, Dan Knight and wife Barbara of Greenville; Granddaughter Danielle Englund and great grandsons Westin and Kyler of Concord, VA; granddaughter Shannon Crook of Ottawa, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Thomas Harrod; her parents, Elmer and Flossie Grubbs, her siblings, Kenneth Grubbs, Elmer Grubbs Jr., Peggy Gamblin, Shirley Orr, and Nolan (Buck) Grubbs.
A memorial service will be held in the near future.
