Mary Jo Ward was born March 11, 1942 in Gurdon, AR and went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend to many.
After graduating from Texas High in Texarkana, TX, Mary Jo moved to Canton, MS where she raised her daughter, Jamee, and later went to Southern Mississippi University. She loved the Magnolia State and enjoyed going back to visit as often as possible. She moved back to TX where she met her husband, Curtis Ward and lived in Wimberly, TX. Mary Jo graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a BBA in Marketing. She was fond of Wimberly, TX where she traded the magnolias for bluebonnets . Work and life led she and Curtis to the Dallas Metroplex.
Mary Jo was very involved in helping raise her granddaughter, Shalya and years later her two great grandsons; Caleb and Ezra.
Mary Jo was always proud of and loved her family immensely. We will hold dear the stories of our fun loving Jobie, including the ones she enjoyed telling of her childhood memories with her siblings; Jerry, Terry, Becky and Thad, whom she loved dearly.
Mary Jo had an unwavering dedication to her faith, family and friends. She always made time to help others. The guidance, support and love she gave to so many she cared for was amazing.
Mary Jo had diverse interests including reading, singing, dancing, sewing and gardening.
Though she endured hardships along her journey, she led a life filled with love, laughter and cherished moments with family and friends.
Mary Jo's life will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and spending time with her.
She was an example of choosing to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us.
Our family extends a heart felt thank you to everyone who provided much love, support and prayers through Mary Jo's difficult journey over the past year and a half.
There will be a small private memorial to honor and celebrate the special life of Mary Jo Ward.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to VITAS in memory of Mary Jo Ward. VITAS has a foundation that supports families in need and the funds will support efforts here locally.
