Marjorie Newman

Marjorie Marie Orr Newman, age 87, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Briarcliff Health Center in Greenville. Mrs. Newman was born in Little Elm, Texas on March 27, 1921 to John Henry and Mary Ellen Johnson Orr. She received her Masters of Library Science Degree from East Texas State University and worked as the librarian at Greenville High School from 1956 until her retirement in 1983. She married Dan R. Newman in 1943 in Corpus Christie, TX, he preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Newman was an avid bridge player and reader and she was an active member of the Greenville community as long as her health allowed. She was also a long-time member of Johnson Street Church of Christ in Greenville. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Other survivors include, two children, Stephen Newman, and wife Lena, of Houston, and Judy Blain, and husband Nick, of Texarkana, TX; grandchildren, Andrew Newman of New York, NY, Susy Newman of Houston, and Chad Blain of Texarkana; great-grandchildren, Ty, Tori, Brynn, Coe, and Mylee Blain, all of Texarkana; sister, Jonetta Eubank of Celina, TX; and brother, John H. Orr of Chicago, Il. Mrs. Newman is also survived by her loyal friend and care giver of 5 years, Debbie Osburn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Billy Don Orr. Memorial services for Mrs. Newman will be held at 4:00 P.M., Friday, March 27, 2009 at Peters Funeral Home in Greenville with Bro. Randy Daw officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place at Memoryland Cemetery.
