Lonnie Joe Jones, age 77, of Greenville passed in the late afternoon hours of Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Hunt Regional Healthcare Center at Greenville. He was born on December 9, 1932 to John Burton and Hattie Lee Morgan Jones; they preceded him in death. Lonnie served his country in the United States Navy and retired after 30 years of active service. He received his Masters Degree in Education and was the Dean of Del Mar College in Corpus Christi for over 20 years. He married Ann Prince in Greenville on August 31, 2008. Lonnie was a proud member of the Phi Delta Kappa professional educators society and formerly served as a district governor for the Rotary Club. Mr. Jones was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Ann; sons, Michael J. Jones, of Dallas, and Patrick A. Jones, and wife Marcia, of Justin, TX; step-son, James E. Prince, and wife Tara, of Lawrenceville, GA; step-daughter, Lesa Ann Wasson, and husband Johnny, of Greenville; adopted daughter, Cara Wilson of West Bend, WI; sister, Treena Kiker, and husband Bobby; four nephews, one grand nephew, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of nearly 50 years, Lou Nell (Cindy) Hansard Jones and one brother, Billy Ed Jones. Services will be held at 1 P.M., Monday, February 15, 2010 at Peters Funeral Home with Paul Gould and Randy Daw officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 " 5 P.M., Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
