Laura Himes

February 27, 1963 — January 13, 2025

Commerce

Laura Renée Himes, a resident of Commerce, Texas, passed away on January 13, 2025 at sixty-one years of age.

Laura is survived by her sister, Kristi Camblin, brother-in-law, David Camblin; sister-in-law, Cathy Beard; nieces and their spouses: Kalina and Jonathan Collier, Kendra and Jeremy McGee, Jennifer and Ryan Goodman; four great-nephews and six great-nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Jo Beard; life partner, Jeff Grady; brother, John Beard, Jr. and grandparent, Fred and Lilla beard; ted and Louise Pfrimmer.

Laura was born February 27, 1963 in Ft. Worth Texas to John and Mary Beard. She attended Grapevine High School, graduating in 1981 with a diploma and a Cosmetology State License in hand. On November 16, 2024 after forty-three years of service in the hair industry, Laura decided to hang up her scissors to begin her life as a retiree.

Although Laura had no children of her own, she dearly loved all children; in return, gaining the trust and attention of God’s perfect beings. Her natural motherly instincts could calm the fears of a small one getting his or her first haircut with a gentle smile, a hushed voice and a sweet treat. Returning home from a days work, Laura would lavish attention and love upon her quite loyal (and spoiled) fur babies, Jose and Sampson (Sammy), a cut Chihuahua and Shik-Tzu.

Insight into Laura’s personality would immediately tell a stranger why she was so loved by family and friends alike. Even through her life struggles, her spirit of kindness and giving towards others remained steadfast. Whether it was sharing fresh fruits ad vegetables with co-workers and family, cooking a meal or baking a cake for a friend or neighbor, giving funds selflessly to a friend in need or sparing a few dollars for a suffering wanderer, or “trying” unsuccessfully to give her sister a free haircut, Laura’s un-wavering love of people shined brightly through her actions. Her resolute bond with our Lord and Savior and her devoted family members were of particular importance to her. Laura’s joyful laughter filled the entire room and quickly had all others in her presence following suit. She laughed often.

Laura enjoyed the company of family and friends by any means possible: through get-togethers and celebrations, phone conversations, texting, social media; it didn’t matter. As long as she shared special moments with ones who were part of her life, she was content. Whether on the top or on the bottom, the Dallas Cowboys football team remained #1 in her heart. Her favorite team player was CeeDee Lamb. She thoroughly enjoyed watching “Them Boys” play on the TV while visiting and eating with her sis and brother-in-law. What truly brought Laura joy, though, was attending sports games involving a beloved great-nephew and a few great-nieces, enthusiastically cheering them on from the gymnasium bleachers. Having finally retired, she was so looking forward to available time to attend even more games.

Throughout her school days, Laura’s fun-loving spirit and joviality drew people towards her. Friends were mad easily. Being no “shrinking violet”, however, Laura would staunchly defend anyone whom she believed to have been unfairly mistreated. A real go-getter in high school, she quickly learned during her sophomore year the career path she would

follow. Laura entered the vocational class of cosmetology offered at Grapevine High and upon finishing the course and passing the state board exams in her senior year, she was well on her way to fulfilling her occupational dreams. She took great pride in her work and only wanted the best for 3each client who sat in her salon chair or who chose to receive any of the many services he provide through her decades long career.

Laura, you will be truly missed by all who loved and /or knew you. Until we embrace again, please watch over us, allowing your beautiful smile and laughter to fill Heaven above with light, goodness and pure joy.
