Josephine Steele, 83 of Celeste, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Greenville, Texas. Josephine was born on December 28, 1930 to George and Melissa Britton in Bosque County, Texas. Josephine met and married J. W. Holder. To this union was born three children; Cathy, James and Patsy. She would later marry John Steele in November, 1964 in Durant, Oklahoma. Josephine would work as a supervisor at Standard Brand; and later Wings Industries. She was a longtime member of the White Rock Methodist Church. Josephine was affectionately known to her friends and community as "Ma". "Ma" loved gardening, attending Blue Devil football games, Halloween and Christmas. She was also passionate about attending cattle auctions and sales; often buying a calf to raise bringing it home in the bed of her pickup. But Josephine's true passion was her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Phiney" to her nieces and nephews who adored her. Her infectious smile and open heart will truly be missed by all who knew her. Josephine is preceded in death by her parents, George and Melissa Britton; infant son, Joseph Michael Holder; husband John Steele; brothers, Herbert Britton, G. W. Britton and Frank "D-Boy" Britton. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, James Holder; daughters, Cathy Holder and Patsy Horton; grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell and his wife Danni, Alicia Holder, Jody Holder, Michael Holder and has wife Dawn, Cayla Horton and Joseph "JoJo" Horton; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Sewell; as well as numerous extended family, friends and neighbors. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kingston. A funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. also at the First United Methodist Church in Kingston. Interment at Hogeye Cemetery will immediately follow the funeral service. Reverend Sam Brown and Reverend Kathy Davis will officiate. The family would like to thank the staff of Briarcliff Care Center for their care and friendship to "Ma" during her stay there.
