Joseph Burton

Joseph C. Burton, age 96, of Greenville, beloved father and grandfather, passed away in the evening hours of April 22, 2010 at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Greenville. He was born in Greenville on July 7, 1913 to Otis H. and Sadie Bertha Strawn Burton, they preceded him in death. Mr. Burton graduated from Caddo Mills High School where he excelled in track and basketball. He began preaching as a very young man and attended Johnson Bible College and Freed Hardeman. In 1937 he married Allen Sprinkle, and seventy happy years followed until her passing in 2008. His lifes work and great joy was being a minister for numerous Church of Christ churches throughout Texas. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Otis Jr., John Edgar, Marcus, and Jim; and sisters, Sadie White and Sue Luna. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in law, Jeanette and Larry Adamson of Duncanville, and Jolene and Jerry Price of Waco; five grandchildren, Terry Price and wife Cathy, Mathew Adamson and wife Heather, Melanie Berryman and husband Don, Holly Adamson, and Jennifer Johnson and husband John; six great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Bellmer White and sisters-in-law Maurice White, Joyce Sprinkle, and Mary Burton; and many nieces and nephews. Services for Mr. Joseph Burton will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 26, 2010 at Johnson Street Church of Christ in Greenville with Pastor Randy Daw, minister of Johnson Street of Christ, and Pastor Rick Hensley, minister of Kingston Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park with Howard Burton, Jimmy Earl Luna, Randall White, Terry Price, Mathew Adamson, Don Berryman, and John Johnson serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 4 " 6 P.M., Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Peters Funeral Home. Joe, as he was known by his family and friends, enters his new life with the glad words I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.
