John was a devoted father to his children Tammy Bryant and her husband Dean, Nealon Chance and his wife Tina, as well as Jennifer Wheeler. John's siblings Teresa Johnson, Betty Gudgell, Stephen Chance, Lisa Sandoval, and Toni Chance were not only family but also dear friends who shared countless memories together.

A proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, John cherished every moment spent with them. His passion for sports led him to coach both baseball and boxing, instilling important values such as teamwork, perseverance, and discipline in the young athletes under his guidance.
