James McKinney

Funeral services for James A. McKinney, of Caddo Mills, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Solid Rock 1st Pentecostal Church of God in Bonham with Pastor Troy Miles officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Savoy with Aaron Haas, Keaton McKinney, Jimi Pire, Fernando Gutierrez, Les Weathers, and Troy Pire serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015 at Peters Funeral Home. Mr. McKinney passed away at his residence on Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015. He was born July 23, 1948 to Austin Eugene and Hazel Margaret Kinman McKinney, in Dallas. He married Vada Jean Lusk, in Dallas, on September 24, 1968. He served in the United States Army. He worked as a major appliance salesman for several companies and after retirement began a second career in karaoke. He loved singing all music, he collected pandas, and he loved taking "short cuts" through the country. Mr. McKinney also loved traveling and taking cruises with his family and friends, his choice of destination was chosen by the proximity to the best karaoke and casinos. James is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Vada McKinney; son, Jerry McKinney (Kimber), of Ft. Worth; daughter, April Pire (Troy), of Caddo Mills; grandchildren, Aaron Haas, Keaton McKinney, Victoria Pire (Fernando Gutierrez), Jimi Pire, and Jarrell Jayson (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Tristan Hughes, Audrina Gutierrez, and Vivian Jayson; sisters, Winnie Slaughter, of Mansfield, and Faith Walker (Wayne), of Dallas; dog, Momo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Mary Phelps and Lela Faye Hance; and brother, Benny Walker.
