James “Jimmy” David Massey, 58, was born January 7, 1966 in Lubbock, TX and passed away on October 28, 2024.
James grew up in Lubbock and Big Springs, TX until junior high, when he and his family moved to Celeste, TX. He graduated from Celeste High School in May 1984, then went on to graduate from nursing school in May 1995. He worked many years at various hospitals and nursing facilities in the McKinney and Mesquite area. Then, to be closer to his parents, he moved back to Lubbock and worked in nursing there. He had a tremendous love for his family and friends, and was an unwavering source of strength and support for them.
Jimmy and his older brother John were very close as children, and even more so as adults. Their family was a close-knit unit that shared many precious moments together; from barbecues with Papa John where everything in the freezer would get cooked, to a life-long love of music and piano with his mother, Donna. As an adult, Jimmy loved lake and deep sea fishing with his friends. James David Massey leaves behind a world that is distinctly richer for having known him and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of calling him family or friend.
He is survived by his parents, John and Donna Massey of Lubbock; his brother John Massey, Jr. and wife Judie of Greenville; nephew John Massey, III; niece Kayla Massey and partner Jonathan of Mesquite; aunt and uncle Beverly Lyday and Richard Lyday of Celeste; aunt Jeannie Carole Glasscock of Roanoke, TX; and aunt Rita Massey of Waco; great-uncle and -aunt Charles and Bessie Glasscock; and many cousins and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Jeffrey Paul Massey; and grandparents JW and Jeann Glasscock; JD and Pauline Massey Wilburn and Pete Wilburn.
Memorial Service will be held November 9, 2024 at 10:30 at the Faith Baptist Church in Lubbock. Graveside services will be November 11, 2024 at 11:00 at Memoryland Cemetery In Greenville. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in James’ honor to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
