Homer Lee Butch Butcher, Jr., age 79, of Greenville, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 11, 2009 after an ongoing illness. Mr. Butcher was born in Mill Creek, Oklahoma to Homer Lee and Edna Gertrude Butcher on December 7, 1929. At the age of 17, Butch joined the United States Army where he first served in occupied Japan as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Regimental Combat Unit. He then served in the Korean Conflict with the 187th and 101st Airborne Divisions. He also saw combat in the Vietnam War with the 1st Air Cavalry Unit. He received two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in Korea and in Vietnam and ultimately served his country for over 22 years. On August 19, 1970, Mr. Butcher married his wife of nearly 40 years, Ruth Lucille Narramore, in Mesquite, Texas; she survives. After his military service, Butch owned and operated his own dental office working as a dental technician. Outside of work, he was a loving family man who took pride in teaching his sons how to hunt and fish. He loved the outdoors, traveling, and reading. Mr. Butcher was a member of VFW, the American Legion, and the Welcome Home Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Texas. Other survivors include three sons, Danny Lee Butcher, and wife Lani, Rodney Steven Butcher, and wife Cyndi, all of Sandy, Utah, and Randy Gene Butcher, and wife Donna, of Farmersville; two step-sons, Keven Warnke, and wife Judy, of New Ulm, Texas and Kenny Warnke, and wife Debbie, of Celeste, Texas; seven grandchildren, Elissa, Daniel, Ashley, Lindsey, Alexandra, Rebecca, and Angela; seven step-grandchildren, Christie, Marshall, Shelbi, Kate, Carolyn, Jessie, and Jennifer; five great grandchildren, Ryan, Kyla, Oyen, Justin, and Adam; three sisters, Bonnie Walker, Patsy Thrift, and Wanda Thompson; and two brothers, Bobby Butcher and Jerry Butcher. Butch was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Butcher. Services for Mr. Butcher will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Peters Funeral Home. His son Rev. Dan Butcher will provide the eulogy and Chaplain Tom Lane will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6 " 8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
