Elwin Neal Banks

Our beloved Elwin Neal Banks was born on February 25, 1960, in Winnsboro, Texas, Wood County.  He passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas.

Elwin graduated from Mount Vernon High School, then went on to nursing school where he received his LVN nursing degree.  His medical experience included ambulance training, working in a hospital in Mount Vernon, Texas, and working in several nursing homes throughout Northeast Texas.  Elwin was most proud of what he learned about medicine from the mentoring he received from Dr. Garrett, in Van, Texas.

Elwin loved animals, and received joy from taking care of them, whether they were dogs, or chickens, or milk goats.  Besides caring for animals himself, he enjoyed watching animals receiving care on veterinary shows on television.

Elwin became very involved in his church, helping in several ministries and becoming a lay minister in the United Methodist Church.  He was someone who was respected and relied upon in his church.

Elwin is survived by his sisters Dale (Dahlia) Page and Verena Smith, his brother Richard Banks and his wife Wyona, his brother Lynn Banks and his wife Gaye, and by his long-time friend and partner Glen Gage.

Elwin is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Beth Banks, his brothers Carrol Banks and Arlon Banks, his nephew Cody Banks, and by his niece Sherry Beth Smith
