Edith Smithart Raney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2023, in Greenville Texas. She was born on June 1, 1955, in Mansfield, Louisiana to Elree and Lucy Smithart. Edith was known for her kind and welcoming nature that always made others feel at ease. She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her vibrant spirit and her unmistakable since of humor.
Edith will be deeply missed by her surviving family and friends, including her loving husband Thomas Lynn Raney of Greenville, TX; her beloved son Kaleb Garcia and daughter-in-law April Garcia of Rockwall, TX; her adored grandson Adam Socolof; granddaughters Piper Garcia and Regan Garcia and great grand daughter Amalia Socolof, all of Rockwall, TX. She is also survived by her dear sister Elaine Newsome of Houston, TX; niece Jennae Mangum and nephew Brandon Mangum of Cypress, TX; brother-in-law Wayne Raney of Pineland, TX; sister-in-law Sally Jo Raney of Houston, TX; sister Madelon Robbins of LaPorte, TX; and brother Bobby Dale Raney of LaPorte, TX.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elree Elliott Smithart, mother, Lucy Page, mother-in-law, grandson Alex Moravitz, Mary Etta Raney, brother-in-laws, Billy Ray Raney and Paul David Raney as well as her sister-in-law, Linda Raney.
While we grieve the loss of Edith's physical presence in our lives, we take solace in the knowledge that she now rests with our Father in heaven. Let us remember her bright smile and kind soul as we celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
A visitation will be held on November 3, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Highland Terrace Baptist Church located at 3939 Joe Ramsey Blvd E, Greenville, TX 75401.
A graveside service is scheduled for November 4, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Centerview Cemetery in Pineland,TX.
