Donald Loyd Ray

January 10, 1934 — March 26, 2025

Donald Loyd Ray, age 91, passed away on March 26, 2025. A man known for his kindness and warmth, Donald leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, service, and friendship. Born on January 10, 1934, he lived a full, adventurous life, never knowing a stranger.

Donald began his professional career in the carnival alongside his family. Over the years, he transitioned into a successful career as a TV stage manager with KSHB Kansas City. His skill, dedication, and work ethic helped bring countless productions to life. Donald’s love for children was evident in his proudest accomplishment: his work with the Shriners Hospitals for Children. As a Shriner for over fifty years, he found great joy in helping children and left a lasting impact on the lives of many families.

Among Donald’s most cherished memories were the years he spent with his loving wife, Bernadette Ray. Their life together was filled with laughter, adventure, and a deep affection that lasted throughout the years. Donald had many passions that brought him joy. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman, spending time outdoors where he loved. He was also a master woodworker, particularly enjoying the craft of making custom knives. He took great pride in the work he created with his hands.

Donald was a proud member of Ike Royal Rangers, where he spent many memorable years teaching and living in the wild with fellow members. He embraced a life of self-sufficiency, living "off the land" for weeks at a time, making his own clothing, building shelter, and cooking his meals over open fires.

Donald leaves behind a legacy of compassion, joy, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette Ray; sister Penny Clark; daughters Donna Pargen and Denise Slotes; grandsons Jeremy Kyle and Ian Pargen; granddaughters Jessica Moore, Shara , and Serena Soltis; and four great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind a host of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
