Clifton Eugene Smoot Jr., 60, of Princeton, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Clifton was born on December 27, 1948 in Tifton, Georgia to Clifton Smoot Sr. and Mary Louise Sweat. He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Mr. Smoot was a member of the Baptist faith. He worked for English Color in McKinney for 9 years and the City of Greenville for 16 years. He loved drag racing, hunting, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pam Smoot, of Princeton, 2 sons; James Smoot of Greenville, and Kevin Smoot and wife April of Princeton, a daughter; Melissa Reader and husband Jason of Caddo Mills, 9 grandchildren; Justin Reader, Jeremy Reader, Jay Reader, and Jessica Reader of Caddo Mills, Victoria Smoot and Nicholas Smoot of Wylie, and Chance Smoot, Hunter Smoot, and Dylan Smoot of Princeton, his father, Clifton Smoot Sr. and wife Evelyn of Ashburn, Georgia, Stepmother, Louise Smoot of Arlington, 3 sisters, Karen Lucas and Teresa Applewhite of Arlington, and Brenda Smoot of Abilene, and 2 brothers, Mike Smoot of Benbrook and Charles Smoot of Reno, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Newsome. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Peters Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Randall Bost. Burial will follow in Memoryland Memorial Park with Justin Reader, Jeremy Reader, Wesley Hampton, Will Armstrong, Mike Smoot, and Chris Taylor serving as pallbearers.
