Augustine Gomez, Sr.

June 3, 1919 — February 5, 2009

Augustine Marin Gomez, Sr., age 89, of Greenville, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Greencrest Manor in Greenville. Mr. Gomez was born in Hanford, California on June 3, 1919 to Manuel Gomez and Anselma Marin, they precede in death. He served in the United States Army at Ft. Hood where he trained gunners during WWII. After his military career, Mr. Gomez worked as a plumber having last worked at the Nuclear Power Plant in San Onofre, California. He married Guadalupe Apodaca on December 8, 1940, she survives. Mr. Gomez moved from California in 1985 to Texas and served as a minister in the Apostolic Assembly of the Faith in Christ Jesus. Augustine will be most remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Also surviving are his children, Lupe A. Silva, and husband Ignacio, of Lemon Grove, CA, Augustine Gomez Jr., and wife Sherron, Ronald Gomez, Larry Gomez, and Maria, and Olivia Garrett and husband Preston, all of Greenville, Yolanda Freeman, and husband Melvin, of Rowlett, Elvia Coffey, and husband Clay, of Lynhurst, VA, and Imelda Gomez, of Greenville; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gomez was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Services for Augustine Gomez, Sr. will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 9, 2009 at Living Word Church with Rev. Jason Hammock and Rev. Meliton Pena officiating. Burial will follow at Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Sunday night at Peters Funeral Home.
