Don Hackler, age 84, of Merit, passed away in the morning hours of Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Baylor Plano Heart Hospital in Plano. He was born on June 22, 1925 in Betty, Upshur County, Texas to Fred N. and Connie Mae Petty Hackler, they preceded him in death. Mr. Hackler married Allie Ruth Blann in Durant, OK on December 9, 1971, she survives. He lived his life as a cowboy, buying and selling horses and cattle, and embraced the cowboy way of life. He retired from Safeway Foods and later in life spent much of his time sitting on his porch watching the world go by. Mr. Hackler is also survived by two daughters, Sandra Sudderth, and husband Gary, of Farmersville and Janice Stephens, and husband Eric, of Red Oak; two step-sons, Larry Blann, and wife Chris, of Parker and Ricky Blann, and wife Tammy, of Wylie; one brother, Paul Hackler, and wife Joyce, of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Comer; one sister, Dureen Poston; two brothers, Curtis Hackler and Bill Hackler; and two grandsons, Shane Nix and Bryan Blann. Services for Mr. Hackler will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Higher Trails Cowboy Church in Merit with Pastor Randy Bird officiating. Burial will be held at 2:30 P.M. at Black Oak Cemetery in Como. (14440 FM 69 South, Como, TX 75431) Visitation will be held from 6 " 8 P.M., Tuesday evening at Peters Funeral Home.
