Alta Gray

Alta May Gray, 96 of Celeste, passed away on September 9, 2011 in the peace of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 8, 1915 in Stigler, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Frankland and Martha (Capps) Johnston. She was a member of Merit Baptist Church. Alta is survived by three daughters, Vivian Jones and her husband James W. of Celeste, Linda Burton of Bellflower, California, and Bonnie McCurry and her husband Kenny Smith of Whittier, California; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She is preceded in her death by her parents; husband, John Thomas Mitchell; 11 siblings, two sons and four daughters. Her funeral service will be Tuesday, September 13 at 2:30 PM in the Merit Baptist Church with Pastor Johnnie Henderson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Merit Cemetery. All arrangements were made through Peters Funeral Home.
